A great follow-up read to “Charlatan”. I was one of those children who received the Salk vaccine when it was brand new and relatively untested. I recall dreading the shots (intra-muscular), and can clearly picture to this day the pink liquid in the gigantic glass and steel syringe. It’s great to know the back story, especially when laid alongside the non-science of “Dr.” John Brinkley and his goat-gland “transplants”.
